Granular Assessment Methodology

If you can't list everything that matters, you can't assess it objectively — and you can't teach it systematically.

Performance-based skills like presenting, designing, or writing a proposal feel like talent because the expectations are never fully spelled out. Itemizing every observable element of quality turns the unteachable into the teachable — the checklist becomes both the assessment tool and the preparation guide.

Building the checklist is harder than using it — and that's where the real expertise goes.

The decomposition from five rubric rows to five hundred checkpoints requires deep domain knowledge: knowing what excellence looks like at every level, in every dimension. Once built, the system is straightforward to apply. The intellectual work is front-loaded, which is why most institutions never do it.
