Psychology Digest - Issue 3

Cognitive psychology, memory science, and judgment under uncertainty

This issue develops cognitive psychology as a set of precise explanatory tools: working memory, attention, language, memory reconstruction, judgment, intelligence measurement, and applied decision environments. The collection is written as advanced psychology reading for International Psychology Olympiad students, with emphasis on definitions, mechanisms, evidence, and boundary conditions rather than surface-level terminology.

What You'll Walk Away With

6cognitive bottleneck models for reasoning about attention and memory
5judgment-bias distinctions for framing, loss, anchoring, and sunk-cost traps
4research-design checks for memory, reaction time, and intelligence measurement
5case-analysis moves for eyewitness, multitasking, and consumer-choice scenarios

You'll Have Answers To

?Why does working memory fail even when a student understands the material?
?How can confidence make eyewitness memory feel stronger than the evidence allows?
?When is a heuristic useful, and when does it become a bias?
?What does a reaction-time task reveal that a self-report cannot?
?How can AI tutoring help learning while also increasing cognitive load?

Editor's Note

“A deep cognitive-psychology issue on memory, judgment, and decision.”

This revised issue teaches cognitive concepts through mechanism and evidence: working-memory limits, false-memory research, heuristics, reaction-time inference, psychometric validity, and applied decision design.

Editor's Brief

Who it's for: Students building advanced cognitive-psychology knowledge for International Psychology Olympiad preparation.
What stands out: The issue treats cognition as a research discipline: concepts are defined, mechanisms are unpacked, classic studies are bounded, and applied cases are interpreted through evidence.
Read if: Read if you want memory, attention, judgment, and choice to become usable scientific tools rather than familiar labels.

Gold Quotes

Working memory is not a bigger desk; it is a bottleneck that decides what thought can hold together.

Many wrong answers in cognition treat memory as storage size alone. This issue shows how control, attention, and task demands shape what the learner can actually process.
