The human moat is the set of capacities that AI structurally cannot develop because they require things AI does not have — intention, embodiment, social presence, values, the experience of caring about outcomes.
These capacities are not residual tasks that AI has not gotten around to automating. They are structural features of being a conscious, embodied agent in a social world. AI can process language without understanding meaning. It can optimise outcomes without wanting anything. It can simulate empathy without feeling it. The gap is architectural, and it will not close with more parameters or better training data.
